Michael Meredith, AIAPrincipalMichael Meredith is a principal and founder of MOS Architects. He is also an Assistant Professor at Princeton University School of Architecture. Michael Meredith received his Master of Architecture with distinction from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and won the Frederick Sheldon Traveling Fellowship. Michael Meredith previously taught architecture at the University of Michigan, where he was awarded the Muschenheim Fellowship, and the University of Toronto, where he was the co-recipient of a Canadian Foundation for Innovation grant. He previously held the position of Associate Professor of Architecture at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He also coordinated and curated the exhibition, Beyond the Harvard Box: The early works of Barnes, Franzen, Johansen, Lundy, Pei, Rudolph. In 2003, he was a resident at the Atlantic Center for the Arts with Dave Hickey, and in 2000, he completed a residency at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, Texas. His writing has been published in ArtForum, Harvard Design Review, AD, and he was the editor of LOG 22, and From Control to Design: Parametric/Algorithmic Architecture published by Actar in Barcelona.

Hilary Sample, AIAPrincipalHilary Sample is a principal and founder of MOS. She is an Associate Professor at Columbia University GSAPP. Hilary Sample received her Master of Architecture at Princeton University and her Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University. At Princeton, she was awarded the Suzanne Kolarik Underwood Thesis Prize and was a finalist for the Skidmore, Owings and Merrill Traveling Fellowship. She has taught design studios at University of Toronto, held the Reyner Banham Teaching Chair at SUNY Buffalo, and was an Associate Professor at Yale University’s School of Architecture. She has been a MacDowell Colony Fellow, and was a design scholar at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montreal. Her writings have been published in journals LOG; Praxis; Perspecta; Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians; and in books Imperfect Health, The Medicalization of Architecture; Post-Ductility; Building Systems: Design, Technology and Society. She serves on the Syracuse University Architecture Advisory Board and is a member of the MacDowell Colony Board of Directors.

Office Statement
We really don’t know exactly when MOS started. Although we didn’t have an office, it was sometime in 2003. When we began, our name was !@#?, which we quickly found was too difficult to use because 1. you couldn’t pronounce it and 2. you couldn’t get a web address. So eventually we drifted towards MOS – an acronym of our names and a shared desire to be horizontal and fuzzy, as opposed to tall and shiny. In 2006, we began our makeshift office around a large table and began working through a range of design experiments – a make-believe of architectural fantasies, problems, and thoughts about what we would be building if we could only get the work. As we’ve grown, we continue to operate around one large table as a design office that works closely on each project through playful experimentation and serious research.
